History

Kopi Luwak origin is closely connected with the history of coffee production in Indonesia. In the early 18th century the Dutch established their colony at the plantations in the Dutch East Indies island of Java and Sumatra, including the introduction of Arabica coffee from Yemen. During Cultuurstelsel era (1830-1870), the Netherlands banned the original farmers and plantation workers to pick cherries for their own use. Curiosity indigenous farmers for their coffee tasted soon discovered that eating feces of civet coffee beans, gathered and cleaned, roasted and ground them to make their own coffee drinks. In other words that the Kopi Luwak  accidentally discovered but became famous for his aromatic spread of local people and soon became their favorite, but because of the scarcity and unusual process, Kopi Luwak  is expensive even in colonial times.

What is Kopi Luwak?

Kopi Luwak is one of the world's most expensive and low-production varieties of coffee. It is made from the beans of coffee berries which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) and other related civets, then passed through its digestive tract. A civet eats the berries for their fleshy pulp. In its stomach, proteolytic enzymes seep into the beans, making shorter peptides and more free amino acids. Passing through a civet's intestines the beans are then defecated, keeping their shape. After gathering, thorough washing, sun drying, light roasting and brewing, these beans yield an aromatic coffee with much less bitterness.

Some manufacturers say that they have the cheapest Wild Kopi Luwak, others say that they are the only one who owns or has the most pure. I once bought a sample from each manufacturer, and finally I found that they did not offer me a real Kopi Luwak. As the coffee is very expensive, many people who are immoral, or a mixture of fake and the end result is completely different from the original, including the price.
